End Sex Discrimination

We're calling on the Federal Government to finally deliver on its promise to end discrimination in religious schools.

In Australia it is still legal for a woman employed by a religious school to be dismissed, demoted or denied employment  because she wants to start a family using IVF, entered into a new relationship, or becomes divorced during her employment (even if that marriage was violent).

This is unacceptable.

No one should lose their job due to discrimination on the basis of their relationship status or pregnancy.

The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) handed down a blueprint for reform last year, finding that the religious ethos of a school could be maintained without such broad exemptions.

Equality shouldn't come with exceptions.

"Sexuality is innate and society & religion shouldn’t try to control or legislate against it. We’ve all heard many of the experiences of those who were othered and alienated by their religions/institutions not accepting them purely for their sexual orientation, and the heavy layers of trauma this inflicts on humans just trying to be their most authentic self. This is discrimination for the teacher who did her job perfectly well, and I think that it sets a negative precedent for queer children, who may feel more alone as a result of witnessing their school discriminate against their teacher."

"It should be important to everyone. When any public money is used to support something it should have the same discrimination laws as all others"
