End Sex Discrimination

We're calling on the Federal Government to finally deliver on its promise to end discrimination in religious schools.

In Australia it is still legal for a woman employed by a religious school to be dismissed, demoted or denied employment  because she wants to start a family using IVF, entered into a new relationship, or becomes divorced during her employment (even if that marriage was violent).

This is unacceptable.

No one should lose their job due to discrimination on the basis of their relationship status or pregnancy.

The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) handed down a blueprint for reform last year, finding that the religious ethos of a school could be maintained without such broad exemptions.

Equality shouldn't come with exceptions.

"Discrimination against people on “moral” grounds based on minority religious ideology is antithetical to the attitudes displayed in the Gospels towards women, ethnic and religious minorities, outcasts, and “sinners”. Let’s reinstate Christian values while it’s still the majority religion, and find similar values in minority faiths."

"I grew up in a catholic school battling the fact that I was queer afraid of the stigma from my peers. For a religion that bases themselves in loving one another they sure do like to hate and persecute those who are different."

"Discrimination has no place in society. Religious based discrimination is a choice they are making/ they (religion) pick and choose what parts of their book they follow. They could just as easily accept and love all Australians just like the good book suggests."
