Speak up to help win safe and legal abortion care in NSW

Right now, there’s a historic opportunity to secure safe, legal and compassionate access to abortion care in NSW.

Laws to decriminalise abortion are being considered by the parliament, and they will be brought to their final vote in the week of the 15th September.

Members of parliament will be given a personal ‘conscience vote’ on the bill, which means that each wavering and undecided MP needs to be personally convinced.

It’s critical we show every MP that their constituents want them to support the legislation as it stands. That’s why every voice counts. Get involved in the campaign by signing and sharing the petition for reform.

Under current NSW law, abortion is a crime for a woman and doctor, except if woman's physical or mental health is in serious danger. These laws have a chilling effect on doctors willingness to provide abortion, and mean many doctors aren't willing to provide terminations in any circumstances.

New laws have been co-sponsored by 15 MPs, and have passed the lower house. Now they are being considered by the upper house, with 20 amendments expected to be proposed in the coming weeks.

Members of Parliament,

We urge you to vote to decriminalise abortion.

"The right to an abortion is very often a medical decision, very often made in the best interest of the child that would be born to an inappropriate, or unwanted future.
Retaining abortion as a criminal offense, in order to stop safe abortions is so wrong on every level, for the mother and the child. It puts 2 lives at risk physically and emotionally. It is time to stop this"

abortion needs to be decriminalised because the mothers life is also important and she must have a say about what is going to happen to her life and her body."

"The reason as to why I may need or want an abortion in Queensland is utterly irrelevant. What is relevant is whether or not this action warrants criminal proceedings held against me for upholding autonomy over my own body. This Bill is well overdue. Get it done."
