Speak up to help win safe and legal abortion care in NSW

Right now, there’s a historic opportunity to secure safe, legal and compassionate access to abortion care in NSW.

Laws to decriminalise abortion are being considered by the parliament, and they will be brought to their final vote in the week of the 15th September.

Members of parliament will be given a personal ‘conscience vote’ on the bill, which means that each wavering and undecided MP needs to be personally convinced.

It’s critical we show every MP that their constituents want them to support the legislation as it stands. That’s why every voice counts. Get involved in the campaign by signing and sharing the petition for reform.

Under current NSW law, abortion is a crime for a woman and doctor, except if woman's physical or mental health is in serious danger. These laws have a chilling effect on doctors willingness to provide abortion, and mean many doctors aren't willing to provide terminations in any circumstances.

New laws have been co-sponsored by 15 MPs, and have passed the lower house. Now they are being considered by the upper house, with 20 amendments expected to be proposed in the coming weeks.

Members of Parliament,

We urge you to vote to decriminalise abortion.

"It is my body and my right to choose whether I bear a child. I do not want to see unwanted children entering an already overly saturated foster care and adoption system. I want to protect living children, living women, and work towards a community that looks after one another.
Forcing a woman to have a child that she does not want to bear, or bring into the world, or cannot afford, or that she fears will not be well looked after through the adoption system is cruel.
Giving life to a person is a tremendous responsibility, and it should involve a choice."

"It is time to abolish the legal avenues which still allow for the persecution of women attempting to exercise autonomy over their own bodies. Patients and doctors, supported by popular opinion, want decisions regarding the health and life of women to be out of the hands of arbitrary laws and into the hands of those directly affected by it."
