The Albanese Government just boosted funding to address gender-based violence - from just over half of the $1 billion dollars experts say is needed, to almost three quarters.

It’s a positive step - and will repair some parts of the women’s service safety net. But the decision not to allocate the full $1 billion needed leaves major gaps in critical areas, and victims and survivors without adequate support in place.

Budgets are political decisions - shaped by a government’s read on constituent concerns, and which areas it must prioritise to retain public support and mandate to lead. So to secure the funds needed to properly address gender-based violence, we’re going to have to keep stepping up our movement’s campaign in this area.
