Let them share their story

It takes a lot of courage for someone to share their experience of sexual harassment. The fear of jeopardising their career or being perceived as a “victim” often prevents people from coming forward. The fear of legal consequences shouldn’t be an added barrier preventing someone from telling their story.

That's why the Sex Discrimination Commissioner has urged all employers to issue a limited waiver of confidentiality obligations in any sexual harassment claim settlements — to ensure anyone affected can make a submission to the National Inquiry into Workplace Sexual Harassment.

ANZ and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, two of Australia’s largest companies, have already committed. Can you sign the petition urging the rest of the Big 4 banks to follow suit?

To Brian Hartzer, CEO of Westpac, and Andrew Thorburn, CEO of NAB,

Please join the growing list of organisations waiving confidentiality obligations to allow anyone affected to make a submission to the National Inquiry into Workplace Sexual Harassment.

Yours sincerely,

Fair Agenda will email petition signers from time to time with important updates

"Sexual harassment knows no vocational bounds, upper age group, or socioeconomic status. Among the responsibilities are banks are to practice good corporate ethics and set an example to the community in general. The banks are among Australia’s biggest businesses, and we understand that they look for opportunities to model good practice. Please make it easy for people with information of a personal nature to come forward, without retribution, and without fear of retribution."

"There should not be legal consequences for coming forward as a victim from sexual harassment or any serious harassment but there it is, the disadvantaged are treated that way a lot."

"Until all men behave properly, and abandon power dominance tactics in the shape of sexual harassment, we must continue to speak out."
