Madigan abortion agenda

Stand against attacks on reproductive rights

Last month, our Senate resumed debate on a Bill that is described as the first step in making abortion more difficult to access.1

The bill was introduced by Senator John Madigan -- who is "unashamedly" anti-abortion, and has previously admitted that he would push for further reforms if this one was successful.2 He is proposing changes to Medicare (one of the few ways the federal parliament can limit abortion access); purportedly to address gender-selective abortion - something even those supporting the bill acknowledge there is "very little, maybe no evidence" is occurring.3

It's part of a disturbing move towards importing US style 'trojan horse' tactics to attack abortion laws in Australia. It's clear that these minority voices will try any avenue available to restrict access to abortion. But they're exactly that - a minority.4 Together, we can help show that voters won't stand for these kinds of attacks on our healthcare, or control over our own bodies.

Sign the pledge to join Fair Agenda, Reproductive Choice Australia and others standing together against any attack on reproductive rights.

I support safe, legal, accessible and affordable reproductive healthcare - including contraception and abortion. I believe everyone should have the right to make decisions about reproductive health and their own body, free from political and ideological interference.

I will use my voice and vote to support candidates who stand alongside me, for reproductive rights.

"Religiously-motivated arguments against a woman’s right to reproductive autonomy have no place in a modern, secular nation like Australia. Madigan and co – keep your rosaries off our ovaries!"

"It is everyone’s right to decide what to do with their own bodies, whatever their view. Having only one option available to women in this situation is taking away their right to decide for themselves what they want."
