An election commitment that could save lives

Intimate partner violence is the leading cause of ill-health and premature death for Victorian women under 45.[1] In the lead up to the Victorian election, domestic violence experts have identified a set of actions they believe can help save the lives of those affected by domestic violence.

They're asking candidates across Victoria to back a set of critical actions designed to: keep women and children safe and housed, make the justice system safe and supportive, hold violent perpetrators to account, break down the service silos that endanger women and children and prevent violence against women and children.

Right now, these frontline workers are meeting with candidates across Victoria to ask for their support. Will you show your local candidate that voters want them to support these priorities? Sign your support now.

"In two young, rough-hewn countries the United States and Australia, a peculiar veneration for many forms of violence grips perhaps three out of five males. To varying degrees, every football code, and the incoherent passions they ignite, illustrate this shallow and dangerous weakness. One likely contribute to boorish, animalistic treatment of women. upshot of dopey sports addictions, and both countries’ long formative years of men-without-women — Subservient to football passions, and many other things, politicians are unlikely to respond as firmly and cogently as they should to male oafs battering their womenfolk. So citizens have to fill that gap with protests about the yahoo and macho."

"It’s high time to act on this sad statistics, we owe it to all coupes who struggle with whit this sad and avoidable situations. Yes obviously we need to provide all the support we can give those people skilled and experienced who are able to support such unhappy relationships. Often young, vulnerable children are also involved and have this unhealthy role modelling as only examples on how to deal with stress. I support the initiative outlined by fairagenda.org on this not only for Victoria but all over Australia, it is such a basic issue that needs action – Now! Not later. Thank you. Margret"

"I am personally going through separation from an abusive partner. I struggle to remain calm and sane, support my children through their own trauma and hold down a job, and navigate the legal system. I have been offered counselling, anti-depressants, extended sick leave, mediation but no-one can make my abusive partner leave our home. I have to make plans to keep us all safe – when the safest thing would be to remove him. The system is not set up to hold abusers to account for their actions, but rather to increase pressure on the women who are trying to protect themselves and more importantly, their children."
