No one should lose their job while they're on maternity leave

No one should be ousted while on maternity leave

It’s just days since Federal Minister Kelly O'Dwyer gave birth, and now attacks are being launched within the Liberal Party to try and have her ousted.[1]

Ms O’Dwyer is the first woman to have a baby while serving in Cabinet. Just last week she spoke out to champion the importance of examples women who have both a family and a high profile career in politics. Now, there are reports a group of “disgruntled millionaires” have chosen this as the moment to try and replace her in her local seat.[2] If we let them get away with it; it will set an incredibly dangerous precedent.

We have to generate a wave of public backlash so loud that Liberal Leaders can't ignore it -- and speak out to stop this attack. Can you help by signing and sharing this petition?

To the Victorian Liberals and Prime Minister Turnbull,

We are extremely concerned about media reports that moves are being made to replace Higgins MP Kelly O’Dwyer while she is on maternity leave, and the dangerous precedent this would set. We urge you to stop this attack.

"There is always a first time for an organisation to encounter maternity among its personnel. That should be seen as an opportunity to create pathways of support, and to acknowledge the national importance of working mothers. It is not a time to engage in harassment that might in itself be considered a breach of ethical behaviour within the organisation."
