Celebrate this historic first - send a message of congratulations to Kelly O'Dwyer
A couple of months ago Kelly O’Dwyer made history as the first woman to have a baby while serving in Cabinet. And this fortnight she’s back in Parliament for the first time since taking time to care for her newborn.
It's an important milestone -- that’s why new mum and Fair Agenda member Nat will be dropping in to Ms O’Dwyer’s office next week to pass on her message of thanks for breaking through this critical glass ceiling.
Ms O'Dwyer has previously spoken out about the importance of showing that you can balance having a family with a high level career in politics.
We need to celebrate leadership that brings us closer to the flexible work practices that benefit us all. And show those who tried to attack Ms O'Dwyer during her parental leave that the public won't stand for it. That’s why it’s extra important to celebrate this historic first.
Can you add a message to Nat's congratulations card to Minister O'Dwyer?

Dear Minister O’Dwyer,
As a woman and a new mother – I wanted to take the time to acknowledge your historic achievement and trailblazing as the first women in Cabinet to take parental leave.
I strongly believe that we need more employers and parents in positions of leadership to recognise and normalise the taking of time to care for family. So your public advocacy around the importance of high profile women showing that it is possible to have both a family and high profile career in politics meant a lot to me.
Having given birth to my daughter just the week before you welcomed your son into the world, I am so heartened by your historic first.
On behalf of those who come next. Thank you,
Natalie
