Tell the govt: fully fund women’s safety

Men’s use of gender-based violence is a crisis across the country. Yet governments are choosing not to properly resource life-saving family, domestic and sexual violence services.

Domestic and family violence services, sexual violence services, women's legal services - all play a vital role in supporting women's safety and wellbeing.

But right now government priorities and funding decisions mean that services aren't resourced to assist everyone that needs them. Every day violence services aren't fully funded is another day women are left in danger.

Enough is enough. We’re calling on governments to invest in a future where women can live, work and learn free from violence. A budget that ensures that a woman or girl who has been raped doesn’t wait months for trauma counselling support. A budget that ensures services have the capacity to respond to a man at risk of using violence. And importantly a budget that ensures any person subject to violence is supported to be safe and escape their abuser.

Join us by calling on the federal government to make women’s safety should be a non-negotiable at the heart of their budgets.

More information

There are gaping holes in the safety net that should be in place for women affected by sexual, domestic and family violence. Funding is urgently needed across every part of the system.

Join the campaign to show the Albanese Government we want women’s safety to be at the core of their budgets; and we want these services fully funded.

To Federal, State and Territory Governments,

We call on you to ensure proper funding of specialist sexual, domestic and family violence services - to ensure everyone affected can access the support they need, and that perpetrators’ abusive behaviours are addressed.

"It’s important because every citizen has a right to safety. If one element of society is causing another not to feel safe, then that element needs to be re-educated and their problems problems solves too."

"When I was 20 the father who abandoned our 1 year old child from pregnancy returned and threatened my life and finacially abused me. This set the tone for the last 19 years of my life and I ended up falling into another relationship 3 years later that wasn’t much better. I thought I knew what to look out for but wasn’t able to have access to adequate services back then to empower me during these situations and suffered in silence. As have my children. It shouldn’t be left up to the woman to carry the load. Then be if I shed for it. More financial independence for single mothers is needed so we can adequately care for our children without the economic abuse. Mostly this begins with the child support system. Our children miss out and this is detrimental to their adult years."

"Why is this important to me? Because for many years I’ve worked with, and assisted women and children who have been victims of domestic violence and suffered. It’s well overdue for the government to fund support services."

"Because enough is enough! How many more partners, wives, mothers and/or daughters must be killed before serious government action is taken. You have the necessary research and data for preventative action. Please use it!"
