Tell the govt: fully fund women’s safety

Domestic and family violence services, sexual violence services, women's legal services - all play a vital role in supporting women's safety and wellbeing.

But right now government priorities and funding decisions mean that services aren't resourced to assist everyone that needs them. Every day violence services aren't fully funded is another day women are left in danger.

Government representatives talk about how we all have a part to play in addressing violence. But making sure frontline services are resourced to support everyone who needs them is squarely the responsibility of governments.

Join us in calling on all government to make women’s safety a non-negotiable at the heart of their budgets.

If you or someone you know is affected by sexual or domestic or family abuse, you can access support from Full Stop Australia's National Violence and Abuse Trauma Counselling and Recovery Service by calling 1800 385 578 or at fullstop.org.au. If you are in danger, call 000. The Men's Referral Service is available on 1300 766 491 for men, or friends and family of men using violence.

More information

There are gaping holes in the safety net that should be in place for women affected by sexual, domestic and family violence. Funding is urgently needed across every part of the system.

Join the campaign to show the Albanese Government we want women’s safety to be at the core of their budgets; and we want these services fully funded.

To Federal, State and Territory Governments,

We call on you to ensure proper funding of specialist sexual, domestic and family violence services - to ensure everyone affected can access the support they need, and that perpetrators’ abusive behaviours are addressed.

"Over 35 years ago as an undergraduate I was terrified by the threat of sexual assault on campus (several times). In 2024 my eldest daughter will be attending uni and I want her to be safe."

"I have been the victim of several acts of sexual-based violence. Getting justice has been the most traumatising part, and the system is extremely damaging to victims. I have developed PTSD from my experiences and it is extremely frightening to know that not only are there ‘bad eggs’ out there who harm women, but there is also a system that does not support victims and allows them to get away with the damage they cause."

"Countries who support women fully are leading the world in many of the measures of success. Australia has a long way to go to ensure true safety of all women living in our country. This is one small step in the right direction."

"Managing a counselling and referral centre I see women and children weekly who are not safe due to domestic and family violence. Nobody should live in fear."
