Fair Agenda's Online Feminist 'Book' Club

Fair Agenda’s Feminist 'Book' Club is an opportunity to strengthen our muscles in the fight for feminist futures, while connecting with others in our communities and taking tangible action in the fight for a fair and gender equitable future.

Here’s how it works:

> Just like a traditional book club, we all read the same text

> Unlike a traditional book club - you don’t have to read a whole book! (We’ll have a chapter / article or podcast, and it will always be a less than 3 hour commitment)

> The text will be selected by the Fair Agenda team, and relate to the moment we're in, and how we can make change

> We’ll meet every 6 weeks

> You can come to the sessions that suit you - and skip any that don’t suit.

Every 6 weeks, the Fair Agenda members will host 'Book' Clubs in their communities; and the Fair Agenda staff team will also host a central virtual Feminist 'book' club for those who prefer that option.

Our intention is that this serves as a space to learn and reflect; to deepen connections with other excellent feminists in our lives; to draw insights from feminist thinkers; and to take action to help make the future a bit better for all of us.

You can access the Report online here. It is also available in hard copy at the State Library of Victoria in the Redmond Barry Reading Room.

Why this reading, in this moment?

The Uluru Statement from the Heart called for Voice, Truth and Treaty across the country.

The Yorrook Justice Commission was Victoria's and Australia's first formal truth-telling inquiry into the historic and systemic injustices perpetrated against First Peoples through colonisation. It took place over four years, and thousands of Victorians shared evidence. This Report contains excerpts from that testimony, and the Commission's findings.

Off the back of the Commission, Victoria was the first state to deliver Treaty. Heading into the Victorian state election, that Treaty is now under threat - with the Victorian Opposition Leader committing to repeal Treaty if elected.

Understanding the importance of Treaty, and the role of First Nations justice in a gender just future has never been more important. These excerpts in particular discuss the experiences of First Nations women; and the intersections of First Nations justice and gender justice.
