Help make the next steps possible

This morning the Prime Minister announced a new funding package worth $100 million focused on tackling family violence. It’s a good start, and proof that our work building pressure around this issue is working. But it’s not enough to stop the crisis devastating our nation.

Thousands of women will still be left in danger - without access to the services they need to stay safe and escape their abusers. The federal government are still inadequately funding specialist family violence services and legal assistance services, and we don't have the investment we need in men’s behaviour change and primary prevention programs.

Fair Agenda has a plan to step up the campaign - to take the call for full funding to key MPs and Ministers; amplifying the voices of survivors of family violence; and making sure the funding gap that's leaving women at risk stays in the headlines. But we need to raise $4,000 to make it possible.

Can you chip in to make the immediate next steps in this campaign possible?

See what the campaign has achieved already

On budget night, in the hour before then Treasurer Joe Hockey revealed the funding allocations for services, The Project launched Fair Agenda’s ‘What it will take’ report. Funded by Fair Agenda members, the report laid out what federal funding is needed to tackle family violence. This coverage sent the call to #showmethemoney to tackle family violence trending nationally.

That made the absence of any new announcements of funding for family violence services on budget night even more stark, and prompted 3 days of national news coverage about the funding needs outlined in the report.

Together, we created so much pressure about this that by the time Minister Cash appeared on Weekend Sunrise to discuss the government’s inadequate funding commitment for family violence services, she announced the government would be committing the funding needed to make sure all calls to our national counselling service 1800 RESPECT could be answered.

In the months since the budget, Fair Agenda has launched more and more information on the funding gap; and members have mobilised to build pressure for action - including flooding Prime Minister Turnbull with emails as soon as he took over as Prime Minister.

This morning's announcement is a good step forward. But it's not nearly enough. To stop this crisis, we need full funding of family violence services. Please chip in to help us keep building the campaign and pressure to make sure women aren't turned away from services.
