Speak up to help win safe and legal abortion care in NSW

Right now, there’s a historic opportunity to secure safe, legal and compassionate access to abortion care in NSW.

Laws to decriminalise abortion are being considered by the parliament, and they will be brought to their final vote in the week of the 15th September.

Members of parliament will be given a personal ‘conscience vote’ on the bill, which means that each wavering and undecided MP needs to be personally convinced.

It’s critical we show every MP that their constituents want them to support the legislation as it stands. That’s why every voice counts. Get involved in the campaign by signing and sharing the petition for reform.

Under current NSW law, abortion is a crime for a woman and doctor, except if woman's physical or mental health is in serious danger. These laws have a chilling effect on doctors willingness to provide abortion, and mean many doctors aren't willing to provide terminations in any circumstances.

New laws have been co-sponsored by 15 MPs, and have passed the lower house. Now they are being considered by the upper house, with 20 amendments expected to be proposed in the coming weeks.

Members of Parliament,

We urge you to vote to decriminalise abortion.

"Consider it an invasion of privacy, if you will. What happens between my legs is none of your business. If you are considering criminalising abortion because you are pro-life/anti-death, or even anti-female-sterilisation – then you should go grow a foetus for 9 months. If you cannot, your opinion really only deserves a 50% weighting on the conversation. At the very least."

"I believe all life is precious. Worth fighting for. But I do not believe it should be criminal for a woman to choose what she may need to do. Do you think it’s an easy choice for women? Give us some respect as we birth guture generations into this world…or are forced to choose differently. Support eomen. It is the woman who deals with all things "reproductive ". Who are you to make us criminals in dire situations?"

"You shouldn’t have any say over what I do with my body, any more than I should get to tell you what to do with your penis! No birth control is 100% effective so why should women who take all the necessary precautions be forced to bear a child they don’t want?"

"i am signing this because this is such an outdated appalling draconian law and needs to be brought into the 20 century each woman should have a “choice” as it is always the woman who is left with the responsibility her body her choice this needs to be decriminalised and no woman force into doing what others deem right for her it’s about time we have equality"
