Join the fight for accessible abortion care

We should all be able to access the reproductive healthcare we need - no matter where we live, or who we are.

Together, we have helped remove abortion from the criminal code -- but legal barriers were only ever part of the problem. Too many people around the country still face major affordability and service access barriers that mean they can't get abortion care when and where they need it.

Too many patients can't rely on their public hospital for care; can't easily find a healthcare service they can turn to in their area; or have to find $500 on short-notice in order to cover the out-of-pocket costs for this urgent and critical healthcare.

There are clear pathways for change - including ensuring abortion care is available in public hospitals and supporting and training health practitioners.

The overturning of Roe v. Wade in the US provides a stark reminder that there is no room for complacency in the fight for reproductive justice. Policies related to abortion are treated as matters of "conscience" for members of major parties in all Australian parliaments, so we can't assume they'll be supported on party lines. Fair Agenda's advocacy has helped to secure historic legal reform in recent years. Now we must continue to mobilise to show a public mandate for abortion to be not only legal but accessible. Can you join the call for action?

To all Australian parliaments,

We all deserve agency over our body, healthcare and future.

We call on you to protect safe, legal and compassionate access to abortion care - and ensure that anyone who needs abortion care can access it when and where they need it, regardless of income.

Signed,

Fair Agenda will email petition signers from time to time with important updates

"Because I am a woman. Should something happen during a wanted pregnancy that puts my life in danger I would want the option to live without consequences for making that choice. Should I be assaulted, an act that already would put strain and pain on my life I should have the option to not have a child from that assault. Should I practice safe sex in a relationship and the birth control for whatever reason fails and even if I want kids in the future, knowing that the time and place and financial situation I was in was unlivable for raising a child in, I would want the option to give myself and future children our best chance with quality of life. If I were to get pregnant and the child was deformed or had a major health issue that would result in a painful existence I would want the option as the mother to be able to say, this child will live in pain and I wouldn’t want any child to suffer that… I would want the choice to choose."

"I’ve had 2 abortions and I’ll have another if I ever find myself in that position again. Abortion saved my life and I’m sure it saved the lives of many women before me! Abortion is healthcare and a human right, forcing pregnancy and gestation on unwilling women IS misogyny and it’s disgusting."
