Hang over George St ?!

Broadcaster Alan Jones has a history of making appalling statements that infer violence against women leaders.[1] This morning he appeared to be at it again with this tweet "$11.3m - can you believe it? You can guess what many people would rather hang 58 metres over George Street...and it’s not a Cloud Arch."

Mr Jones has previously said former Prime Minister Julia Gillard should be put in a chaff bag and dumped at sea,[2] and also recently suggested that NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian had put her head in “a noose” that will be “tightened” by truckies and farmers.[3]

Given the horrifying rates of men’s violence against women in our community; high profile men like Mr. Jones should be condemning such violence in the strongest possible terms, not making comments that appear to infer violence against women in leadership.

As Former Army chief David Morrison has said: the standard you walk past is the standard you accept. If Mr Jones isn't willing to unreservedly apologise for the impact of his comments, advertisers should stop supporting his radio show. Can you sign the petition to show advertisers on The Alan Jones Breakfast Show that the community demands better?

To all advertisers on the Alan Jones Breakfast Show,

Violence against women is having a horrifying impact in our communities, and should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

Alan Jones' recent tweet that appears to infer the hanging of the Lord Mayor is the latest in a series of appalling comments in which he appears to infer violence against high profile women.

The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. That's why we urge you to end your company's financial endorsement of Mr Jones's radio show through advertising until he unreservedly apologises for his comments.
