There are more stuffed toys in the Logies Hall of Fame than women
- Campaign dated April 2015 -
For the past thirty years, every year the TV Week Logies have bestowed a 'Hall of Fame' award on a person or program who has made an 'outstanding contribution to Australian television'. And in those thirty years, they have only inducted a woman once.
Hall of Fame award recipients include: Bud Tingwell, Molly Meldrum and Play School -- meaning there are more stuffed toys in the Hall of Fame, than women.
As preparations begin for the 2015 Awards season; media outlets are shining a spotlight on the problem, including compiling a list of the dozens of women TV fans think can and should be added to the Hall of Fame -- including the likes of Aussie greats Noni Hazelhurst, Cate Blanchett, Magda Szubanski and Lee Lin Chin.1 In the United States, multiple people are inducted into their TV hall of fame each year.2
It's preposterous that an award celebrating the greats of Australian television is still failing to recognise women. Can you join the call for TV Week and the Logies to ensure more women are recognised in the Hall of Fame?
1. There's seriously only one woman in the Logies hall of fame, BuzzFeed Oz, 31 March 2015.
2. Time to revamp Logies Hall of Fame? TV Tonight, 31 March 2015.
